Rep. Rick Ladd (R - Graf 4)Thank you very much, Mister Speaker. Its unusual but I have to admit the body on the other side of the wall has really improved a patriotic bill that will serve the welfare of the state. The Senate went further by restricting any authority of the state or any subdivision of government from disallowing a local school board from displaying those immortal words written by General John Stark in 1809, "Live Free or Die." As the Pastor said this morning, we enjoy our freedoms and freedoms don't come free. So I encourage all to vote to concur on this and I request a roll call vote. Thank you.
Speaker PackardA roll call has been requested. Is that sufficiently seconded? It is sufficiently seconded. Members will take their seats. This will be a roll call vote. The Chair recognizes Rep. Woodcock for a parliamentary inquiry.
Rep. Stephen Woodcock (D - Carr 2)Thank you, Mister Speaker. Mister Speaker if I know that French fries come in multiple toppings. Some, like I, like salt with a little bit of ketchup. Others like a lot of ketchup. Some like some brown sauce. Some like cheese. It sort of reminds me that one size doesn't fit all, nor does one deity. And, also Mister Speaker if I know that the motto Live Free or Die is patriotic as the Representative from Haverhill said, but yet it has significant impact on our students in school. If we recall, adolescents in school, Mister Speaker when their brain has not been fully developed but they have questions of where am I going and what am I doing. If I feel that I am being bullied. If I am nervous or too fat or too tall or too skinny or I don't wear the right clothes, Mister Speaker, then.
Rep. Al Baldasaro (R - Rock 5)Is he doing a parliamentary inquiry or a speech?
Rep. Stephen Woodcock (D - Carr 2)Thank you, Mister Speaker. May I continue? If I have seen students in middle school and high school who have their arms cut all the way up from razor blades because they are concerned and they are in pain and I put on the front door of every building Live Free or Die, I'm concerned about the trigger that it sends to these adolescents as they come in every day. Mister Speaker, I would suggest one more. This will only be number 3 Mister Speaker. Thank you. If I know Mister Speaker that I spent many a day in Sunday school every single year. If I know my vacations Mister Speaker were occupied with vacation bible school. And if I know that I learned one thing from those nuggets of years Mister Speaker is that Jesus did not come into town with a sign hanging from his ass in any school, I ask you to vote no.
Speaker PackardThe Chair recognizes Rep. Hobson for a parliamentary inquiry.
Rep. Deb Hobson (R - Rock 14)Thank you, Mister Speaker. If I know that this bill outlining "In God, We Trust" is our national motto. And if I know that God can be synonymous with higher power. Sometimes a higher power can bring hope when we feel hopeless. And, finally Mister Speaker, if I know that this bill was put on the consent calendar of the other body as ITL and pulled by the brave member from District 2 of the other body to add out state motto, which is Live Free or Die, would I now press the green button to send the message that we in New Hampshire are proud of our history, our heritage and our faith?
Speaker PackardThe House will be in order. The question is on the concurrence motion on HB 69. This is a roll call vote. If you are in favor, you'll press the green button. If you are opposed, you'll press the red button. Voting stations will be open for 30 seconds. Have all members present had an opportunity to vote? The House will attend to the state of the vote. 211 voting Yea, 150 voting Nay, the concurrence motion on HB 69 is adopted.
