Excused for the Day

The journal records 52 members as having leave of the House for the day, that is, permission to be away. A member on leave may still have voted on part of the day, and the roll call record does not always agree with the journal about who was excused.

Rep. Jerry Stringham (D - Graf 5)Thank you, Mister Speaker. It's a special time when we can come together as a body with a bill that clearly defines our common values and shared gratitude for a native son. I'm pleased to stand here and support HB 1135, the naming of a portion of Route 49 in honor of Specialist Marc P. Decoteau. PFC Decoteau served in the Army in Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom and died on January 29, 2010. He had enlisted in the Army after his 2008 graduation from Plymouth Regional High School where he was an outstanding student athlete, helping to win two state football championships. He was raised in and still has family in Waterville Valley. PFC Decoteau was stationed in Afghanistan as part of the psychological operations unit based in Fort Bragg, NC. He was known as hard working, reliable, a great team player, well-liked by his classmates and neighbors. His sacrifice and that of his family will be memorialized with the passage of this bill. Route 49 is the main road into Waterville Valley, the only road this time of year, will be named in his honor. Specialist Decoteau's father Marc and mother Nancy are here today and present in the balcony. PFC Decoteau's brother, who serves in the military as well as his sister were able to attend the committee hearing on this bill and share on this honor as well. I ask for your support for this bill in honor of Private First Class Marc P. Decoteau. Thank you very much.
