The Story
It was introduced on January 9, 2025 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Children and Family Law committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on March 18, 2025, with 8 people signed in online: 2 in support and 6 in opposition. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee voted 13–1 to recommend that the House kill it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee met in executive session on September 30, 2025 to vote on its recommendation. On January 7, 2026 the House adopted “Recommit” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Debra DeSimone. The committee met in executive session on March 2, 2026 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House kill it, and the minority recommended that the House pass it, by a vote of 13–1. The report was placed on the regular calendar.
