Majority — OUGHT TO PASS
Students today face the challenge of rides to school running hours longer than they should. This bill helps to address that with a simple tweak to existing policy, and without sacrificing the safety of those operations. It helps fill a critical need, particularly in the Mascoma Valley and other western parts of the state. Vote 8-7.
Minority — INEXPEDIENT TO LEGISLATE
The minority feels that while the bill is intended to address driver shortages, it waives New Hampshire Certification standards without ensuring equivalent oversight and safety protections. We heard testimony from the DMV stating Vermont does not accept licenses of NH drivers and requires that applicant complete a VT based training and testing prior to issuance of a license. The minority feels that this does not embrace a true good faith reciprocity agreement.
