New Hampshire is very proud of its natural features and boasts a thriving tourism industry for all four seasons however the Transportation Committee feels that completely removing The Old Man of the Mountain from our state license plates would be too detrimental to our state’s long-standing cultural heritage. Normally, custom plates and custom decals are reserved for non-profit organizations. Allowing four new distinct plates representing New Hampshire’s four seasons will cause confusion and ambiguity with how we convey New Hampshire identity. The current requirement to include our state motto “Live Free or Die” along with the image our fallen man of the mountain remains the preferred method of exposing our shared cultural identity and heritage. Vote 15-0.
