Committee — INEXPEDIENT TO LEGISLATE
This bill authorizes a moderator to pause ballot counting overnight and establishes procedures for securing ballots and resuming tabulation. The committee found that current election law requires timely and continuous tabulation and reporting of election results. The committee further found that the bill conflicts with existing statutes governing ballot counting and election returns and introduces unnecessary procedural complexity into election administration. The committee determined that the proposal does not address a demonstrated deficiency in current law and that existing procedures are sufficient to ensure accurate and timely ballot counting. For these reasons, the committee recommends that the bill be found Inexpedient to Legislate. Vote 16-0.
