Where it stands
House: INEXPEDIENT TO LEGISLATE
Every floor vote on this bill was a voice or division vote, so there is no record of how individual legislators voted.
A bill goes on the consent calendar when the committee vote was unanimous or nearly so, and any members who dissented did not object to placing it there. It then passes without floor debate. Ten members may file a petition to pull a bill off the consent calendar and have it debated and voted on separately.

Committee — INEXPEDIENT TO LEGISLATE
The committee after hearing from hundreds of citizens, in person and through online submissions, came to the unanimous conclusion that the overwhelming number of the citizens of this state do not wish for the death penalty to be reinstated. While we would contend that the American system of justice is the best in the world, it is not perfect and it does make mistakes. One of the things that makes our system great is its ability and willingness to rectify mistakes. A mistaken execution cannot be undone. Further, the committee is not blind to the fractious nature of our national political system, with allegations of the politicization our justice system being made from all corners. Now is not the time in our history to empower the government with the ability to execute its citizens. History gives us numerous examples of countries where only capital murder warranted death one day and where “crimes against the state” were added the next. Vote 13-0.
