Committee — INEXPEDIENT TO LEGISLATE
This bill would allow a municipality’s governing body to assume control of the public library. The library trustees would serve solely in an advisory role to the governing body. The bill’s sponsor testified that she has a municipality within her district that needed this bill to address issues within the library. Historically, the committee has not passed bills to correct an individual issue within one municipality that would affect all New Hampshire municipalities. The committee believes that the municipality identified by the sponsor has sufficient local control available to address any current issues. The committee received over one thousand signed in objections against this bill. The committee voted to recommend the bill Inexpedient to Legislate. Vote 15-0.
