Committee — OUGHT TO PASS
This bill allows oversight of dual and concurrent enrollment of high schoolers in the early college program to the Community College System New Hampshire (CCSNH). This bill is a request of the CCSNH. Students enrolled in grades 10, 11, and 12 may enroll in the dual and concurrent enrollment program to receive college credit while in high school. Current law states that a dual and concurrent enrollment course may not exceed four credits. Recognizing that there are an increasing number of licensed nursing assistant (LNA) health field courses and technical courses (the trades) offered for more than four credits per course, CCSNH has requested that identifying the number of credits allowed per course taken by a student be administered and decided through policy decision making at the college level. For example, rather than taking two, four-credit courses, a student may want to enroll in one two-credit course and one six-credit course; however, current statute states a course may not exceed four credits. Enrollment continues to increase in these early college programs for high school students seeking to accelerate their postsecondary journey and save on college costs. Vote 16-0.
