The Story
It was introduced on January 9, 2025 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 11, 2025. The committee voted unanimously, 4–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 20, 2025 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 27, 2025 and was referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 15, 2025, with 4 people signed in online: 3 in support and 1 in opposition. The committee met in executive session on May 6, 2025 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 14–1 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 22, 2025 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (2025-2877e) was adopted on a voice vote on June 12, 2025. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 26, 2025 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2025-2877e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 15, 2025, making it Chapter 252 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2025.
