The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2025 and referred to the House Education Policy and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 29, 2025, with 12 people signed in online: 8 in support and 4 in opposition. The committee met in executive session on February 3, 2025 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 10–8. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On February 20, 2025 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 208–161. It crossed to the Senate on March 6, 2025 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The bill was enrolled on May 22, 2025 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 2, 2025, making it Chapter 56 of the session laws.
