The Story

The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2024-0515s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2024-0515s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 15, 2024, changing the text of the bill. On February 15, 2024 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee voted unanimously, 7–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it. On March 7, 2024 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 7, 2024 and was referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 26, 2024, with 6 people signed in online: 5 in support and 1 in opposition. The committee met in executive session on April 9, 2024 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 2, 2024 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2024 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 14, 2024, making it Chapter 86 of the session laws. It took effect on August 13, 2024.
