The Story

On February 22, 2023 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 16, 2023 and was referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 26, 2023. The committee met in executive session on April 26, 2023, May 3, 2023 and May 30, 2023. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on September 19, 2023 and October 19, 2023. The committee met in executive session on October 19, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House kill it, and the minority recommended that the House study it after the session ends, by a vote of 15–4. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On January 4, 2024 the House voted to kill it on a voice vote.
