relative to mental health education.

  • Status: Killed
  • Term: 2023-2024
  • House committee: Education
  • Senate committee: Education
  • Subject: Education - General

The Story

It was introduced on January 19, 2023 and referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 31, 2023. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2023-0636s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2023-0636s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 9, 2023, changing the text of the bill. On March 9, 2023 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 23, 2023 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 23, 2023 and was referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 11, 2023. The committee met in executive session on April 11, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 30, 2023, June 28, 2023, September 19, 2023 and October 12, 2023. The committee met in executive session on November 13, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee recommended, on a tied vote of 10–10, which carries no majority, that the House make no recommendation, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On January 3, 2024 the House voted to kill it on a voice vote. On January 3, 2024 the House rejected a motion to pass it on a roll call 183–186. On January 3, 2024 the House failed “Reconsider SB151” on a roll call 183–187, on a motion by Rep. Joe Sweeney.
