  • Term: 2023-2024
  • House committee: Education

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2023 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 27, 2023. The committee met in executive session on February 6, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 30, 2023, October 5, 2023 and October 18, 2023. The committee met in executive session on November 13, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee recommended, on a tied vote of 10–10, which carries no majority, that the House make no recommendation, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On January 3, 2024 the House adopted “Lay HB439 on Table” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Myler. The bill died on the table when the session ended on October 10, 2024, having been set aside and never taken back up.
