HB 354 (2024)

relative to chartered public school eligibility for state school building aid.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2023-2024
  • House committee: Education
  • Senate committee: Education
  • Subject: Education - General
  • Chapter law: 47

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2023 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 8, 2023. The committee met in executive session on February 15, 2023 and March 15, 2023. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 30, 2023, June 12, 2023, September 14, 2023, October 5, 2023, October 18, 2023 and October 31, 2023. The committee met in executive session on November 13, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee recommended, on a tied vote of 10–10, which carries no majority, that the House make no recommendation, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. A floor amendment (2023-2415h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 3, 2024, changing the text of the bill. On January 3, 2024 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 190–177. It crossed to the Senate on February 15, 2024 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 12, 2024. The committee voted 3–2 to recommend that the Senate pass it. On May 2, 2024 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2024 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 14, 2024, making it Chapter 47 of the session laws.
