relative to criminal records checks in school employment.
- Status: Died on the table
- Term: 2023-2024
- House committee: Education
- Subject: Education - General
The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2023 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 18, 2023. The committee met in executive session on February 3, 2023 and March 7, 2023. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 30, 2023, September 26, 2023 and October 17, 2023. The committee met in executive session on November 13, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House study it after the session ends, and the minority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2023-2317h), by a vote of 13–7. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On January 3, 2024 the House adopted “Lay HB267 on Table” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Rick Ladd. The bill died on the table when the session ended on October 10, 2024, having been set aside and never taken back up.
