The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2024 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 12, 2024, with 17 people signed in online: 2 in support and 15 in opposition. The committee met in executive session on February 20, 2024 and March 11, 2024. The committee recommended, on a tied vote of 10–10, which carries no majority, that the House make no recommendation, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 28, 2024 the House failed “Lay HB1453 on Table” on a division vote 190–184, on a motion by Rep. Joe Sweeney. The bill died on the table when the session ended on October 10, 2024, having been set aside and never taken back up.
