The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2023 and referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 2023. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2023-0285s). The committee's amendment (2023-0285s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 9, 2023, changing the text of the bill. On February 9, 2023 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 16, 2023 and was referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Judiciary committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2023. The committee met in executive session on May 3, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 18, 2023 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2023 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 20, 2023, making it Chapter 97 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2023.
