The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2023-0540s). It crossed to the House on March 16, 2023 and was referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 25, 2023. The committee met in executive session on April 26, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 4, 2023 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 18, 2023 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on May 31, 2023. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On October 26, 2023 the Senate voted 1–22 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
