SB 229-FN (2023)

relative to administration of certain wetlands permits by the department of environmental services.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2023-2024
  • House committee: Resources, Recreation and Development
  • Senate committee: Energy and Natural Resources
  • Subject: Environment - Administration
  • Chapter law: 147

The Story

It was introduced on January 19, 2023 and referred to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2023. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 22, 2023 the Senate adopted “Special Order to 03/09/2023, Without Objection”. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (2023-0659s), offered by Sen. Kevin Avard, was adopted on a voice vote on March 9, 2023, changing the text of the bill. On March 9, 2023 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 16, 2023 and was referred to the House Resources, Recreation and Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 2023. The committee met in executive session on May 3, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 18, 2023 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 15, 2023 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2023-2124e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 30, 2023, making it Chapter 147 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2023.
