The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2023 and referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 18, 2023. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On January 26, 2023 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 9, 2023 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 16, 2023 and was referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 18, 2023. The committee met in executive session on April 26, 2023, May 3, 2023 and May 9, 2023. The committee voted 18–1 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 18, 2023 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2023 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 20, 2023, making it Chapter 93 of the session laws. It took effect on August 19, 2023.
