- Term: 2023-2024
- House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
- Senate committee: Commerce
- Subject: Banking and Finance
- Chapter law: 236
The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2023 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 1, 2023. The committee held a work session on March 7, 2023. The committee met in executive session on March 8, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2023-0993h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 19–1. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2023-0993h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 22, 2023, changing the text of the bill. On March 22, 2023 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2023 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 11, 2023. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2023-1882s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2023-1882s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 18, 2023, changing the text of the bill. On May 18, 2023 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 15, 2023 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 2023-1882s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. John Hunt. The bill was enrolled on June 29, 2023 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2023-2246e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on August 8, 2023, making it Chapter 236 of the session laws.
