The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2023 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 21, 2023. The committee met in executive session on February 28, 2023 and March 15, 2023. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2023-0725h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 12–7. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 22, 2023 the House adopted “Lay HB316 on Table” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Ross Berry. The bill died on the table when the session ended on October 26, 2023, having been set aside and never taken back up.
