The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2023 and referred to the House Education committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Finance committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2023. The committee met in executive session on March 15, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 25–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 22, 2023 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2023 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2023. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 13, 2023 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 11, 2023 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 19, 2023, making it Chapter 38 of the session laws.
