The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2023 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2023. The committee met in executive session on January 31, 2023 to vote on its recommendation. The committee recommended that the House make no recommendation. On February 22, 2023 the House adopted “Lay HB196 on Table” on a division vote 339–7, on a motion by Rep. Connie Lane. The bill died on the table when the session ended on October 26, 2023, having been set aside and never taken back up.
