  • Term: 2021-2022

  • Chapter law: 279

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2022 and referred to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 15, 2022. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2022-0786s). The committee's amendment (2022-0786s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 24, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On February 24, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 24, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2022 and was referred to the House Science, Technology and Energy committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 11, 2022. The committee met in executive session on April 11, 2022 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 15–5. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 5, 2022 the House failed “Lay SB424 on Table” on a division vote 139–190, on a motion by Rep. Somssich. On May 5, 2022 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 214–118. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2022-2098e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. An enrolled bill amendment (2022-2098) was considered. These correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 24, 2022, making it Chapter 279 of the session laws. It took effect on June 24, 2022.
