The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2022 and referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 2022. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2022-1035s). On March 17, 2022 the Senate adopted “Special Order to Next Session, Without Objection”. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2022-1035s). The committee's amendment (2022-1035s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2022, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2022-1180s), offered by Sen. Ruth Ward, was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2022, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2022-1175s), offered by Sen. Kahn, was rejected on a voice vote on March 24, 2022. On March 24, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 28, 2022 and was referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 11, 2022. The committee met in executive session on April 26, 2022 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2022-1765h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1765h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 4, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On May 4, 2022 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 12, 2022 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Ruth Ward. On May 12, 2022 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for CofC” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Rick Ladd. On May 26, 2022 the House adopted the conference report (2022-2026c) on a voice vote. On May 26, 2022 the Senate adopted the conference report (2022-2026c) on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 1, 2022, making it Chapter 313 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2023.
