The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2022 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 12, 2022. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 3, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate study it after the session ends. On March 24, 2022 the Senate failed “Refer to Interim Study, RC 11Y-11N”. On March 24, 2022 the Senate voted to lay it on the table, on a motion by Sen. Bradley. On March 31, 2022 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Bradley. A floor amendment (2022-1295s), offered by Sen. Bradley, was adopted on a voice vote on March 31, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On March 31, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 31, 2022 and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2022. The committee met in executive session on April 19, 2022 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 4, 2022 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 7, 2022, making it Chapter 147 of the session laws.
