The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee met in executive session on March 10, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held a work session on September 21, 2021. The committee met in executive session on September 28, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2021-2164h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 18–3. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-2164h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 6, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On January 6, 2022 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 8, 2022. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate study it after the session ends, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 14, 2022 the Senate adopted “Refer to Interim Study” on a voice vote.
