- Status: Referred for interim study
- Term: 2021-2022

- Senate committee: Judiciary

The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on September 28, 2021 and October 5, 2021. The committee met in executive session on October 20, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 19–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2021-2177h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-2177h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 6, 2022, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2021-2294h), offered by Rep. Bob Lynn, was rejected on a division vote 73–263 on January 6, 2022. On January 6, 2022 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2022. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate study it after the session ends, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 5, 2022 the Senate adopted “Refer to Interim Study” on a voice vote.
