  • Senate committee: Ways and Means
  • Subject: Gambling
  • Chapter law: 288

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a work session on March 3, 2021. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on September 7, 2021, September 14, 2021 and September 28, 2021. The committee met in executive session on September 28, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 19–5 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2021-2152h), and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-2152h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 6, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On January 6, 2022 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate and was referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2022-1131s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2022-1131s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On March 24, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 5, 2022 the House adopted “House Non-Concurs with Senate Amendment 2022-1131s and Requests CofC (Reps. Abrami, Spilsbury, Janigian, Ames)” on a voice vote. On May 12, 2022 the Senate adopted “Accedes to House Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Giuda. A committee of conference met on May 17, 2022 and May 18, 2022 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On May 26, 2022 the Senate adopted the conference report (2022-2056c) on a voice vote. On May 26, 2022 the House adopted the conference report (2022-2056c) on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 1, 2022, making it Chapter 288 of the session laws.
