- Term: 2021-2022
- House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety

The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee voted 14–7 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 8, 2021 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 8, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate send it back to committee, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 13, 2021 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-2291s). The committee's amendment (2021-2291s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 5, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On January 5, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 12, 2022 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Abbas. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 24, 2022, making it Chapter 248 of the session laws.
