The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2022 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 15, 2022. The committee met in executive session on March 1, 2022 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 12–3 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 15, 2022 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2022 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 5, 2022. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 14, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 28, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. An enrolled bill amendment (2022-1987e) was adopted on a voice vote on May 12, 2022. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2022-1987E) was considered to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 7, 2022, making it Chapter 140 of the session laws.
