The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2022 and referred to the House Public Works and Highways committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 13, 2022. The committee met in executive session on February 24, 2022 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 23–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2022-0756h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2022-0756h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 10, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On March 10, 2022 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 23, 2022. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (2022-1884s), offered by Sen. Bradley, was adopted on a voice vote on April 28, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On April 28, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 5, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 12, 2022 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Graham. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 17, 2022, making it Chapter 205 of the session laws.
