The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2022 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 2022. The committee met in executive session on March 7, 2022 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–10. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 16, 2022 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 174–159. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2022 and was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 20, 2022. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2022-1868s). On May 5, 2022 the Senate adopted “Special Order to after the Bills removed from the Consent Calendar, Without Objection”. The committee's amendment (2022-1868s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 5, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On May 5, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. On May 12, 2022 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Mark Pearson. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2022-2110e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 1, 2022, making it Chapter 305 of the session laws.
