HB 136 (2022)

requiring schools to update documents and software to include the option of identifying a student as non-binary.

  • Status: Died on the table
  • Term: 2021-2022
  • House committee: Education
  • Subject: Education - General

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee met in executive session on October 14, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House kill it, and the minority recommended that the House pass it, by a vote of 11–9. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On January 6, 2022 the House voted to lay it on the table on a division vote 194–163, on a motion by Rep. Cordelli.
