It was introduced on January 5, 2022 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 9, 2022. The committee held a work session on February 25, 2022. The committee met in executive session on March 2, 2022 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 21–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2022-0811h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 15, 2022 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. The committee's amendment (2022-0811h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 15, 2022, changing the text of the bill. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2022 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 29, 2022. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2022-1551s). On April 21, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 12, 2022 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Abbas. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2022-2102e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. An enrolled bill amendment (2022-2102) was considered. These correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 24, 2022, making it Chapter 260 of the session laws.
