HB 1163 (2022)

relative to over voted ballots.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2021-2022
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Election Law and Municipal Affairs
  • Subject: Elections
  • Chapter law: 134

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2022 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 23, 2022 on a proposed non-germane amendment (2022-0735h). The committee met in executive session on March 9, 2022 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 19–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2022-0741h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 15, 2022 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. The committee's amendment (2022-0741h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 15, 2022, changing the text of the bill. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2022 and was referred to the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 18, 2022. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 28, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. An enrolled bill amendment (2022-1990e) was adopted on a voice vote on May 12, 2022. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2022-1990E) was considered to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 7, 2022, making it Chapter 134 of the session laws.
