The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2022 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee met in executive session on March 7, 2022 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2022-0847h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 10–9. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2022-0847h) was adopted on a division vote 187–148 on March 16, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On March 16, 2022 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2022 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 2022. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2022-1805s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2022-1805s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 5, 2022, changing the text of the bill. On May 5, 2022 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 12, 2022 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. McGuire. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2022 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 1, 2022, making it Chapter 297 of the session laws.
