  • Term: 2021-2022
  • House committee: Children and Family Law
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Children

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1001s). The committee's amendment (2021-1001s) was adopted on a roll call 24–0 on April 1, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On April 1, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 9, 2021 and was referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee voted 13–1 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On June 3, 2021 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on August 23, 2021, making it Chapter 220 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2022.
