The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-0763s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-0763s) was adopted on a roll call 23–1 on March 18, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On March 18, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On June 3, 2021 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2021-2055e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on August 23, 2021, making it Chapter 219 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2022.
