adopting omnibus legislation relative to election procedures.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2021-2022
- House committee: Election Law
- Senate committee: Election Law and Municipal Affairs
- Subject: Elections
- Chapter law: 177
The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-0825s). The committee's amendment (2021-0825s) was adopted on a roll call 24–0 on March 25, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On March 25, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a work session on May 5, 2021. The committee held a public hearing on May 19, 2021 on a proposed non-germane amendment (2021-1445h). The committee met in executive session on May 19, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1610h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–8. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-1610h) was adopted on a roll call 202–175 on June 3, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On June 3, 2021 the House voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 200–174. On June 10, 2021 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes, on a motion by Sen. James Gray. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 30, 2021, making it Chapter 177 of the session laws.
