The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1022s). The committee's amendment (2021-1022s) was adopted on a roll call 24–0 on April 1, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On April 1, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 9, 2021 and was referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee met in executive session on May 17, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 16–5. The report was placed on the regular calendar. A floor amendment (2021-1846h), offered by Rep. Mark Pearson, was adopted on a voice vote on June 3, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On June 3, 2021 the House rejected a motion to lay it on the table on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Silber. On June 3, 2021 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 10, 2021 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Bradley. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 30, 2021, making it Chapter 176 of the session laws.
