The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-0983s). The committee's amendment (2021-0983s) was adopted on a roll call 14–10 on April 1, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On April 1, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on April 9, 2021 and was referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee met in executive session on May 26, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1596h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–8. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On June 3, 2021 the House voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 201–171. The committee's amendment (2021-1596h) was adopted on a voice vote on June 4, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On June 10, 2021 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. French. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 23, 2021, making it Chapter 153 of the session laws.
