The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-0745s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-0745s) was adopted on a roll call 23–1 on March 18, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On March 18, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 4, 2021 on a proposed non-germane amendment (2021-1237h). The committee met in executive session on May 13, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1237h), and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 13–6. The report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-1237h) was adopted on a voice vote on June 3, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On June 3, 2021 the House voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 238–134. On June 10, 2021 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen.
