The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 10–8. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 8, 2021 the House rejected a motion to lay it on the table on a division vote 176–192, on a motion by Rep. Grote. On April 8, 2021 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 200–166. It crossed to the Senate on April 8, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 27, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 10, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 1, 2021, making it Chapter 98 of the session laws.
