The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee met in executive session on March 2, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2021-0576h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. It crossed to the Senate on April 1, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee's amendment (2021-0576h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 7, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On April 7, 2021 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On April 7, 2021 the House failed “Reconsider” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Jason Osborne. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1464s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-1464s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 20, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On May 20, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2021-2053e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on August 10, 2021, making it Chapter 192 of the session laws.
