  • Term: 2021-2022

  • Senate committee: Election Law and Municipal Affairs

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. It crossed to the Senate on April 1, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs committee. On April 7, 2021 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On April 7, 2021 the House failed “Reconsider” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Jason Osborne. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 6, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 4, 2021, making it Chapter 65 of the session laws.
