relative to rebates under the law governing unfair insurance practices.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2021-2022
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Insurance
  • Chapter law: 171

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee met in executive session on March 2, 2021 and March 3, 2021. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. It crossed to the Senate on April 1, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. On April 7, 2021 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On April 7, 2021 the House failed “Reconsider” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Jason Osborne. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1411s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-1411s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 20, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On May 20, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 10, 2021 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 2021-1411s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. John Hunt. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 30, 2021, making it Chapter 171 of the session laws.
